Eduardo and Alicia Vivanco
In this age of mass-produced goods and big box stores, it’s good to know that there are artisans in our community who put meticulous care into their work. Eduardo and Alicia Vivanco are two such artisans. Their business Cameo Designs, LLC, offers custom-designed tile pieces to commercial and residential clients. The Vivancos, graduates of MAC’s Business Planning course, design and fabricate decorative custom tile murals, floor medallions, kitchen backsplashes and more.
Their designs convey both whimsy and the beauty of the Southwest. Take their design for the entryway to the Vactor residence, owners of the Tack Room Restaurant. The Vivancos incorporated the infamous Tack Room boot, and integrated the grout as a lariat.
Each tile is cut by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Eduardo has stocked their backyard studio with needed equipment and supplies, purchased with the help of the city’s IDA program, which helps families multiply their savings and can be used toward business development.
Eduardo designs and creates the tiles while Alicia pays attention to every facet of customer service. “Together we complete the picture, though sometimes we butt heads,” says Alicia. “One day I fired him and told him to get a job. But then I hired him back.”
And that’s good news for us, as the Vivancos are helping to make Tucson more beautiful, one piece at a time.
