Become a MAC Volunteer
MAC welcomes professionals from all aspects of business who want to donate their time and expertise to assist emerging and existing business owners. Opportunities exist to help with assessing client needs, public relations, become a mentor; assisting clients with business plan research and development, and classroom training. The rewards of volunteering are many, including feeling that you have significantly helped someone and are part of a dynamic network of dedicated business professionals who impact Tucson’s economic growth.
MAC Volunteers can choose from the following exciting opportunities:
1. Business Counselors. The counselor will meet with potential clients and assess their needs using a pre-existing form and then upload data unto MAC’s online system. These volunteers will assess the needs of the clients by conducting a SWOT analysis and discuss goals and objectives for the client’s business. Volunteers are expected to work at a minimum of two hours per week. Counselors will also inform clients of workshops offered by MAC that could be of service to their business needs.
2. Professional Trainers. The trainers are those individuals who are interested in speaking at a MAC class, or conducting a workshop on their own. MAC workshops are usually 2-3 hours in length.
3. Professional Mentors. The mentors are those individuals that enjoy spending more one-on-one time with clients to help them succeed and achieve business goals. Mentors can meet with a client for a few weeks working on a specific task, or for a whole year or longer depending on the goal(s) of the client. Mentors are expected to work with clients for no more than 10 hours per month. The Mentor program is designed for new and existing business owners who want to continue with the business development process through the building of a mentor relationship with an existing or retired business owner or employee who has specific industry expertise. Mentors are recruited and chosen based on their business success, communication skills, and desire to contribute to the development of entrepreneurs. Mentors bring to the relationship at least five years of experience in their own businesses and/or expertise in a specific industry. Mentors will be required to submit brief monthly reports to detail work performed.
Every interested volunteer is to participate in MAC’s Orientation to volunteers towards the beginning of their volunteer contract agreement.
